Letting go, Surrendering and Aligning in Three Easy Steps

On our spiritual journey, we learn to question our actions, beliefs, and emotions, gain new perspectives and insights about everything we do in life and challenge our beliefs and acquired knowledge. We may have read some books, listened to podcasts and read some blogs, and no matter where you are in the process, the art of letting go or surrendering is crucial. We reflect on our true desires and envision a more fulfilling future, and in order to arrive at that new fulfilling abundance, we need to learn to let go and surrender.

I created a meditation on the process of surrendering to the universe and the details around it in a way that may help you continuously on your journey. It invites you to come back every time you want to make a change on your path.

Surrendering is an important step on our journey that we need to re-learn. It is different than surrendering to a circumstance that has been brought to us externally. Surrendering spiritually means to have faith in the outcome. Surrendering here means to let go of the idea of a past or a future. To surrender, you must be in the present moment, as you give up your defenses and trust that your higher self will lead you to where you need to go in order to achieve what you want in your life.

What you really surrender here is the pretend control from your active thinking mind, the one that analyzes, solves, plots and schemes, and it worries, for the thinking mind reminds us constantly of the past, as it may provide patterns for us to strategize our future. To ‘control’ our future, we must worry…. But, in order to really achieve change, we must eliminate the past and the future from our creative mind as it sets us limitations that are imagined. And nothing is impossible. The universe responds to you and your frequency specifically. That means, if your mind is occupied with worry, and your body and mind feel and accept the emotion of upset, of sorrow, of lack, then that is what the universe responds to, and it will provide you with more of misery, problems and things to worry about. This is why we need to surrender and not let worry and the seeming ‘lack of control’ get in the way of our goals and desires.

           This is how manifestation works.

You only need to learn this process one time, because every change you want to achieve and replace with better will follow this process. So, devote some time to this. Maybe do it daily even for a while until the process feels natural. So, devote some time to this. Maybe do it daily even for a while until the process feels natural. The following will hopefully provide more clarity.

           First Phase

The process has three steps to it. First, identify areas in your life that needs change or that you have outgrown. In this initial process, think about what you want your future to look like, what are our goals? Write down what you would like to achieve. For example, if opening a bakery has been your dream, smell the cakes, see the decorated products, envision customers wowing your goods. Think about how you will feel about your success and feel that! This process is the same for finding your purpose and your calling. Then commit to seeing your vision through. In this release the old, it is the intentional letting-go of your past, of anything that no longer serves you. This applies to the old in our lives, and, as we envision what we want our future to look like and define our soul desires, intuitive nudges, creative visions and future self-imagery, and then surrender to the universe, your higher self, your spirit teams and guides and allow them to guide you to where you want to be.

           Second Phase

In this phase we surrender to the Universe to achieve what we desire. The universe responds to frequency, so, once we do surrender, we want to feel as if our desires have already been fulfilled like in the example with the bakery, and we should express our gratitude, as gratitude is one of the most powerful emotional frequencies. Feel how you will feel once your goal is achieved. This is surrendering with faith.

The body is at rest when we are grateful, our whole system runs optimally, and this is where the universe responds to us. This is a hard step and the whole process may need to be repeated a few times. As we develop our desires may change, so come back to this meditation as often as you want or need to. Make sure to journal and reflect on all stages you are going through and enjoy the time and space you are giving to yourself. Be excited about this journey. Be patient, this process can be messy. Remember, every time you are going through a change, it is leading you out of your comfort zone, and it may take a while to adjust.

           Third Phase

Once we are able to surrender to the Universe, it will help us to align with the outcome, align with our soul purpose, align with our desires.

Grief - How To Deal With the Loss Of A Loved One

I have not posted a new blog in a couple of months, though I have been busy with my work as well as my personal life. Mom passed away suddenly and it has rocked my world.

Back in May, I felt this urgency to go see mom in Germany. I spent most of July there. The distance has always been hard since I moved to the US some 20 years ago. After caring for dad and grandma until they passed, mom was left alone in the big house and it seemed like a light had gone out. She was physically healthy but could not walk well for unknown reasons. Well, I believe I figured out the reason after going through her medical records, and even though her doctors insisted there was none, I believe that a fall that ended with a traumatic brain injury contributed greatly to it. She isolated herself more and more, even from family. A year ago, I spent a month with her, went to the doctors, helped with disability applications and cleaning around the house. I did the same in July of this year. She had accepted professional help to come in once a week, and I felt good and planned to come back in 3-6 months. Then, at the end of August, she broke her hip, was admitted to the hospital, contracted pneumonia in both lungs and passed quickly.

Mom and I didn’t have a close emotional connection. She was very young when she had children and was a partner to my dad who built a few businesses throughout his life. She was very involved. We didn’t always come first as children. But family still was important. These links cannot be broken, and that was instilled in me. My family was certainly caring and always there when needed. And I love them very much.

           Death Sucks!

When I got the news at 7am in the morning on September 8th, my first reaction was to throw up. I hadn’t smoked in a while, but I lit up right away. Then, I fell into that hectic nervous activity and literally went around in circles. The next day, getting up was really hard. I stood under the shower, completely disoriented and I felt very weak, so I turned my shower into an early morning salt bath which calmed me a little bit. I kept having flashbacks about my life with my mom. On Wednesday, the third day, I broke into tears every few minutes all day long. At the end of that day, I felt okay, empty, stoic, a little more grounded. I think the news sank in then. Mom is really gone.

Those first three days were intense. Since then, I have been trying to stay grounded and centered, but still allowing for emotions, memories, and flashbacks to come up. It’s mom, so, regardless of how long ago we were intimately involved in each others’ life, it still feels like a fundamental part of my life is gone, and I question my identity. Every day is like a brand-new chapter. I have stood in my own way of change and progress because I was afraid of it. Now, there is no way around this. It happened and this loss exists and demands to be dealt with. Deep down, I know nothing is going to be as it was because this person is gone. All of a sudden, even though I have taken care of myself and determined my life path on my own for a very long time, it feels like I’m missing this safety net, the place one can always go to when in need. It has just been wiped out.

I moved away to go to school when I was 18. I lived 5 hours away from home, worked on my career, got engaged, and then re-located to the US, broke off my engagement, met my husband here in the US instead and settled with him and raised my daughter. And still, even though my mom hasn’t actually given me advice for many years, even though I raised my daughter in a successful way, at least in my opinion, I still feel lost at times. Alone and separated.

           Grief

Grief isolates from society, as in our Western culture, we push death so far away, as if we don’t need to experience it as long as we just ignore it hard enough, but it is as inevitable as birth. It is part of life. Due to this attitude of not acknowledging death, we are often struck in shock when it does happen to our loved ones, and we don’t know what to do, or how to begin to process what is happening. Grief hits hard.

From my work as an End-of-Life Practitioner and volunteering with hospice care, as well as my own spiritual journey, I don’t believe death is the end. I believe our soul existed before we were born, and when we transition, we go back to the source from which we came. Our higher self is the part of the soul that remains with the source throughout our life, and it is a great practice to connect with it through techniques such as meditation as it will guide us to a deeper understanding about all of this, life, death, good times and hard times will become clearer and make more sense if we only allow ourselves to connect with our own soul. The meaning of life comes up when we lose someone. Why all this? To end up alone in the end? It’s not that simple. I believe life is a series of lessons for us to grow and learn, and we benefit from progress of our understanding even after we transition to the other realm, back to the source.

I do believe that we need to let it happen as it wants to unfold. We need to face our sadness, face our fears, and also let feelings of anger, frustration, or resentment play out. It’s all valid. I don’t believe we have to put the ones who passed on a pedestal all the time. They were humans like us, they made mistakes just like we do. They caused hard feelings, maybe even suffering, and it’s okay to feel that as well.

There may be regret here, because now, the opportunity to resolve anything is gone. But is it? Doing what I do, I believe that now mom sees me. Now she understands how I feel, and when I have thoughts or speak my truth out loud, I feel heard. Just like that. It’s just a different kind of dealing with all of it. Guilt is another big emotion that overwhelmed me right away. I didn’t do enough, I wasn’t there for her. Could I have done anything more for her. Was I a good daughter? It’s easy to get down into a spiral with those kinds of thoughts. It helps me to visualize her and speak out loud to her about what I feel, even the issues that we had in life. Again, I strongly believe, she can hear and see me now, so speaking my truth, and trying to understand where she was coming from, are essential to put things into perspective for me, and to be able to let go of. I have done this in the past, when I became an adult and then a mother and came to terms with the fact that there are no perfect parents, but now it is different, deeper. More stuff comes up. Forgiveness is so powerful when we deal with passed loved ones. Regardless of what happened before this moment, we are allowed and encouraged to forgive ourselves and others in order to move on. So, facing emotions, reflecting on them is the only way to shift our perception and come to closure. Easy! Well…, we may struggle with all these steps, especially when emotions run deep or have been buried for a long time. It’s absolutely okay not to rush through the process but instead keep focus on it and don’t push it away or compartmentalize it. It’s okay to grieve as long as it takes.

           Time Heals?

It’s been almost a month now and I have all these memories come up to remind me and feel her absence. She used to call me at 10pm her time every day when she went to bed. It would be 3pm my time, and in the last 4 weeks, I listened to her voicemails when 3pm came around to hear her voice. And then I just get hit with memories and thoughts of her, recalling the fact for me that she isn’t here any longer.

When I get up in the morning and go about my day, nothing’s different, but the absence of this one person in my life – however close we were or how often we spoke with each other – my personal reality has changed drastically. It has thrown me out of my comfort zone and I must find my footing again.

Naturally, it is different when grief affects ourselves. I have co-facilitated grief groups, and I get the pain of the participants and that is difficult to observe, but there is no comparison to the situation when we are going through it ourselves.

Imagine for a second how you would speak to a person who is in mourning, and then compare that to your own situation, how do you speak to yourself? My advice to everyone who is going through grief or has gone through it in the past and to myself is to be gentle with yourself. Don’t push or rush. Don’t try to force the process along. You will come to the end of the tunnel when you’re ready, and that is the only good way to do this.

           Death is Sacred!

Treat it with respect, patience, and love, for your loved, yourself, and everyone affected.

I write down everything that comes up, all my emotions and thoughts. Keeping a journal is a tremendous help during these sad days. And I continue to go through the process and continue to grief. Every time I go for a walk and calm my mind, memories find me and I have shed a few tears in the park.

Finding Your Authentic Self - 4

            Finding Your Authentic Self

When we open spiritually to find our true authentic selves, we will realize that the way we see the world, people, and authorities will change as we change our perspectives on the world at large and our own lives. The world is a chaotic playground that may feel safe at times, but it never really is. It is always chaotic. The changing factor is you. As you start questioning your beliefs, you will also begin to see through facades and understand the conditioning you have been going through, as have your parents and all the generations who came before. This conditioning has been done by the closest people in your life all the way up to the rulers of the world.

The power to change how fulfilled or content we are lies within us. The power is in questioning our points of view as well as the people and circumstances in our lives. We are able to find our own happiness and fulfillment, no matter what is going on around us or who is ruling the world because we have the power to change ourselves and our circumstances regardless of what they currently are.

We are free to make choices that are better suited for us based on the realizations and discoveries on this journey to finding our true selves. These changes may come in phases. Some very small and others could be big and sudden, depending on what we realize and ultimately, what we desire.

At some point in my own journey, I realized how wrong I was in my job in the insurance industry. It became so blatantly clear and the more I realized this, the more my body reacted badly every time I had to go into the office, until I got to a point where I said, enough. I cannot do this anymore, and so I quit. The quitting wasn’t fast, and it wasn’t all that sudden, but it was inevitable. You may not have to make sudden big changes because you realize you are meant to be in a different place or doing a different kind of work. Look at the situation from all angles, maybe you won’t have to do something as drastic as quitting your job. Maybe many smaller changes will appeal to you and are easier to deal with. But, if you truly come to the conclusion that a certain situation doesn’t work out anymore (and this applies to job, relationship, etc.), please be gentle with the people involved. Be sure you have a solid plan to move to. You don’t have to have everything figured out, but you should know the next steps to take and be open and patient for things to fall into place for you.

When it comes to relationships, change can be very painful, but sometimes, we come to the realization that some relationships or friendships or partnerships will no longer work. The spiritual journey and your personal changes may also mean that people will no longer understand our perspective and friends may leave us behind. This is disappointing and painful, but there is always a reason for people leaving or entering our lives. Sometimes, it is obvious, at other times it isn't. It can be quite painful regardless, but it will make room for new experiences and relationships that are better suited for the new you!

Let’s talk about why change is necessary.

In short, if we are not willing to change we WILL miss out on opportunities. Nobody is born perfect. It takes time to discover who you truly are, learn and grow. And sometimes, difficulties are in our lives for us to overcome and learn the lesson. Actually, if we stop thinking, why are certain things happening to me and replace it with the question, what lesson is this situation teaching me, we are well on our way to better!!

Let’s look back at the beginning, and to get there, let me ask you a question: Have you ever had a boyfriend or girlfriend or a buddy who has made you constantly feel bad or inadequate? Someone who makes you feel like you’re lacking something and who makes you believe that you are not pretty enough, or not worthy enough, or not able enough, or successful enough in life? At some point, maybe you realized that you have been manipulated and treated with disrespect, you have had enough and broken up with this person. Maybe it took you a while to get back to yourself and decided that you no longer believe the lies you were told by this person? You took your power back by claiming you are good enough, pretty enough, smart enough, worthy enough! It’s hard, isn’t it?

What about your early childhood? The people in your closest space, the people who are supposed to love you unconditionally and take care of you? What if they have instilled these thoughts of not good enough in you. And you don’t even realize that this happened because you were young and didn’t know better? This needs more exploring of who you really are and how you can live a fulfilling and rewarding life and have relationships that are supportive of who you are.

Your task now is to get to know yourself. The real you. You may have ideas you always wanted to explore. You may find books that talk about spiritual experiences. There are numerous blogs, meditations, podcasts out there that can be helpful. It is equally important to go inside your mind, to find quiet spaces and moments. Our subconscious mind holds all memories from this lifetime and others. In order to dip into this knowledge, we must be still and mindful and meditate for deeper understanding of ourselves.

I talked earlier about the importance of keeping a journal because, when you open your subconscious mind, you will have new thoughts, ideas or old persistent thoughts that deserve your exploring. On this journey, a journal is the tool you really need. Any crystals, herbs, or other things that call for ritualistic behavior are optional. Do what resonates with you. For some, crystals are magical energetic objects, and for others they're pretty rocks.

I want to go back to the early situation in our lives and the influence of our families. As stated earlier, from the moment we are born, we are being conditioned to conform to our communities, our families, and the societies we live in. Our families, who are also conditioned to conformity, do their best to raise us to fit into a society they believe is best or cannot be changed. They do the best they can with what they know. This is hard to understand when there is obvious abuse that happens so often in families and may seem as a contradiction to the statement that our parent are doing their best. However, abusive parents probably experienced abuse themselves and have not taken the opportunity to get to know themselves and heal their traumas. So, abusive parents also do their best in an unhealed way. I hope this makes sense. And here, you are making a difference, when you decide to heal not just for yourself, but you touch the ancestral line and heal so many more souls than you can imagine. More about the ancestry later. So, our upbringing is not always nurturing us as individuals or supporting our natural skills and talents that we bring into this world. Often, we grow up not tending to ourselves because we don’t believe it is worth it, or that we deserve it or we just don’t know better. As adults who believe we are not deserving of our own happiness and fulfillment, it creates discontent that we live with throughout our lives. Many of us never find fulfillment and don’t make our dreams a reality. So often, as adults, we don’t even know what we want anymore, or what our dreams even were. We often grow up feeling as if we don’t fit in, not in our families nor in school or later at work. We choose friends we think are good for us and mask our true selves with pills, alcohol and other destructible coping mechanisms. We may feel absolutely unhappy or unfulfilled. For most of us, finding a partner, having families and a good career are the goals. This lifestyle can distract us for years and years but deep down, we know there is something missing.

Happiness and fulfillment are inherent rights, and mindfulness / meditation can help us to get back to our roots, figuring out what those dreams are, what gives us joy, and what fulfills us. How do we become our authentic selves? If we only dare to be in the moment, not being run by our thoughts, but truly observant to the present moment, we give room to that voice from deep within our souls that we have been conditioned to keep quiet. We are able to heal old wounds and change our lives. We all have a calling and a purpose. When we find out what those are, we are able to get on the path that leads us to more happiness and fulfillment.

My own life was like that. I buried my dreams and wishes and grew up not really knowing myself. I had ideas that I was an empath, that I wanted to be of service to others, but that was not what I learned to do. Instead, I ended up in a dead-end job in the insurance industry and in relationships where I was always missing something. Even when I did have successes and wins at work, I didn’t feel joy. I was rigid, always anticipating the next blow and failure. I felt empty inside and full of anxiety. Every day was a struggle. I drank alcohol most days, took something for sleep and masked my fundamental unhappiness with occupying myself with silly activities that would distract me from misery. I never found any real rest or restoration and walked through life like a zombie. I believe many of us feel that way. I am an introvert and shy which is a double whammy and led me to fake my life in my community while being completely depleted of energy or joy. Becoming aware of the unhappiness and exploring the things that really give me joy felt like a rebellious act at first, but as I learned more and included mindfulness and meditation into my daily life, I began the wondrous and exciting journey to find my true self. If you are in a situation where you feel like you have to walk on eggshells around the people and situations in your life, let that be a sure indication that you are in the wrong place. Life doesn’t have to be that difficult and we all can find our true happiness and grow from the life lessons we encountered. I invite you to join me on this journey deep into your soul.

I am here to tell you that once I gave room to that inner voice and found out what brought me joy, my life changed, bit by bit. I started to understand myself and give myself room to grow. For most of us this breakthrough happens slowly, but with every revelation, however small, I felt happier and re-assured that I was on the right path. In fact, this journey brings joy as soon as we start out on it, as we discover our deeply rooted desires, however small each step seems, every new discovery about ourselves is confirmation that we are going in the right direction. Stepping out into public like this is the greatest risk I have ever taken in my life, but I feel a burning desire to bring my thoughts out. Since I have been working on this, I have created a new routine. As soon as I get up in the morning, whether it is at 5am or 9am, I make my coffee or tea and pace as I have many thoughts and I write. Sometimes, I write for an hour before I even pour my first tea/coffee. Sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night and grab my journal because I need to write. This is new to me. I never had a diary or notebook that I regularly wrote in. So, I’m sharing with the world what I know, hoping to fill you with the same excitement that I have felt since I stepped out onto this journey.

Don’t be afraid to explore yourself, be curious and don’t judge as you explore the depths of your soul. It will lead you to greater fulfillment and joy, as you are getting to know yourself. Please check back soon for more blog content and guided meditations on Youtube. I have fallen a little behind because I went to Germany for July to see my family there. On my return, I started a new side gig that took my attention, but I promise, I will provide more very soon. Thanks to all of you for checking in.

Breathing is something we do in an automated way. We don't have to think about. We just do, but when we manipulate our breath, i.e. we breathe deeper or in rhythmic ways, we can achieve amazing states of calmness and change how our body and our mind respond to our environment. Breathing techniques are also a form of exercise for your lungs. They improve lung function and efficiency. Overall these techniques are powerful tools for both physical and mental well-being.

Athletes, singers, or people with respiratory conditions regularly use breathing exercises to strengthen the lungs. In spiritual terms, a breathing technique is most often the first step to initiate a practice. When we take a deep breath, we alert our body and mind to the present moment, and therefore has an immediate effect and readies us for meditation, or simply going inwards.

Other benefits are stress-reduction, improved focus and clear mental fog, support emotional regulation and help with managing anxiety, anger, or stress. Manipulated or regulated breathing techniques help respond - not react during challenging conversations or stressful moments.

So, when you find yourself in a stressful situation, or feel emotionally overwhelmed, changing your breathing pattern can also shift your perception.

           - Inhale deeply through your nose so your belly rises, not your chest

           - Exhale slowly through your mouth This is more about feeling the breath than counting—very grounding.

           4. Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana)

Balances the two sides of your body and mind.

           - Use your thumb to close your right nostril and inhale through the left

           - Close your left nostril and exhale through the right

           - Inhale through the right, then switch and exhale through the left Continue this gentle cycle for a few minutes.

Here is a short script for 1. Box Breathing:

Begin by finding a comfortable seat. Sit upright but relaxed, hands resting gently on your lap.

Now, let your eyes close softly or soften your gaze.

Inhale through your nose for 4 counts:

           One... Two... Three... Four...

Hold your breath for 4 counts:

           One... Two... Three... Four...

Exhale slowly through your mouth for 4 counts:

           One... Two... Three... Four...

            Hold again for 4 counts:

           One... Two... Three... Four...

As you breathe, imagine tracing the outline of a square with each phase of the breath.

With each breath, feel yourself softening—letting go of tension, anchoring to stillness.

Inhale again and affirm the following in your mind:

           "I am breathing in peace."

           Hold your breath and affirm:

           "I am grounded and calm."

           Exhale and affirm:

           "I release tension and stress."

Repeat this cycle with the same affirmations except for the last one

           Inhale

           "I am breathing in peace."

           Hold your breath and affirm:

           "I am grounded and calm."

           Exhale and affirm:

"I am present in this moment."

This exercise might be hard at first if you are not in the habit of breathing exercises. Just do the best you can. It'll get easier with time. Even when I post a meditation and instruct you to breathe a certain way, please feel free to change it to your liking and comfort level. The importance is not necessarily the technique but the intention behind the breathing exercise, namely to calm your mind and center yourself as mentioned above. Get creative with your breathing. There are so many possibilities and whole books are written about it. Just be sure to not stress yourself. When you start feeling dizzy, light-headed or any kind of physical discomfort, please stop and take it easy. If you have any conditions such as asthma, please consult with your physician. Breathing is naturally a safe practice, but when you manipulate it, always listen to our body. It's no different than when you start a physical exercise routine. You don't immediately sign up for a marathon, but start slowly and carefully and grow over time.

How to Begin Your Spiritual Journey

Stepping out to explore yourself can be scary. No matter how happy or miserable you may be currently, you are used to it. It is your comfort zone, and to begin this journey, you will be required to step out of it. The first step on a spiritual journey often begins with

           self-inquiry

—a moment where you pause and ask, “Is there more to life than what I see?” That spark of curiosity, that inner tug toward something deeper or more meaningful, is usually the gateway. Know that you set the pace of your discovery, and that there is nothing to lose, other than what or whom is no longer serving you. You will be able to shed what is not part of the authentic you. If you are willing to submit to the journey, you will find a new level of fulfillment. Every revelation about yourself will bring a reassurance that you are on the right path.

So, make the first step. All you have to do, is commit to yourself.

I strongly recommend starting a journal, if you don’t already have one. As soon as you make room for your higher self and your subconscious mind (intuition), you will have thoughts, new ideas and emotions bubble up from deep inside. Write them down, some may sound familiar, but you just never paid attention to them, and others will feel brand-new though may feel faintly familiar. You are exploring what is all stored within you, some of which had been pushed to far corners when we were really young, because our true nature was conditioned to conform.

From here, many people start by:

            Reflecting on current beliefs

—What do you truly believe in, and are those beliefs your own or inherited?

            Creating space for stillness

—Whether through meditation, journaling, or simply spending time in nature, quiet moments help you hear your inner voice.

            Opening up to new perspectives

—Reading spiritual texts, listening to teachers, or exploring different traditions can expand your understanding.

But here’s the beautiful twist: there’s no one-size-fits-all path. Your journey is yours alone, and the first step is simply the one that feels most honest to you

           Reflecting on current beliefs

           — Here are a few ways to dive deeper:

            Trace the origin

: Pick a belief you hold—about life, love, purpose, or the divine—and ask, “Where did this come from?” Was it taught to you, or did you arrive at it through your own journey?

            Test its resonance

: Does this belief still feel true to who you are now? Or does it feel outdated, limiting, or even borrowed?

            Notice how it shows up

: How does this belief influence your choices, your relationships, or your sense of peace? Sometimes we say we believe one thing, but live as if we believe another.

            Be open to evolution

: Beliefs aren’t set in stone. They can grow, shift, or even dissolve as you evolve. That’s not weakness—it’s wisdom.

           Creating space for stillness-

Creating space for stillness isn’t just about finding a quiet corner—it’s about cultivating an inner sanctuary where your spirit can breathe.

Here’s how you can go further:

            1.

           Designate a Sacred Space

Choose a spot that feels safe and calming. It could be a cozy nook, a seat by a window, or even a spot in nature. Keep it uncluttered and add elements that invite peace—soft lighting, a candle, a plant, or objects that hold personal meaning.

            2.

           Establish Rituals

Rituals signal to your mind and body that it’s time to slow down. Light a candle, take three deep breaths, or say a simple intention like, “I am here now.” These small acts create a rhythm that helps you enter stillness more easily.

            3.

           Limit Distractions

Turn off notifications, silence your phone, and let others know you’re taking time for yourself. Stillness thrives in the absence of interruption.

            4.

           Use Breath as an Anchor

Mindful breathing is a powerful gateway to stillness. Try inhaling for four counts, holding for four, and exhaling for four. Let your breath guide you inward, away from the noise of the day.

            5.

           Let Nature Hold You

If you can, spend time outside. Sit under a tree, walk barefoot on grass, or listen to the wind. Nature has a way of quieting the mind and opening the heart.

Stillness isn’t about doing nothing—it’s about being fully present. And in that presence, something sacred often stirs.

These are just suggestions. If you don’t have a space you can dedicate, sitting at the dinner table with a candle or a crystal to focus on will work just fine.

           Opening up to new perspectives-

Opening up to new perspectives is like cracking a window in a stuffy room—you let in fresh air, light, and the possibility of transformation. Spiritually, it’s about loosening the grip on certainty and stepping into curiosity.

Here are some ways to invite that openness:

            1.

           Practice Humble Curiosity

Approach new ideas with the mindset of a student, not a judge. Instead of asking “Is this right or wrong?” try “What can I learn from this?” That shift alone can soften resistance.

            2.

           Engage with Diverse Voices

Read spiritual texts from different traditions, listen to people with beliefs unlike your own, or attend a gathering outside your usual circle. Exposure doesn’t mean agreement—it means expansion.

            3.

           Notice Your Reactions

When something challenges your beliefs, pause. Ask yourself: “What part of me feels threatened?” Often, resistance is a signpost pointing to where growth wants to happen.

            4.

           Embrace the Mystery

Not everything needs to be figured out. Letting go of the need for immediate answers creates space for deeper understanding to unfold over time.

            5.

           Reflect and Integrate

After encountering a new perspective, take time to reflect. What resonated? What didn’t? What might you carry forward? Integration is where openness becomes transformation.

As one guide puts it, spiritual openness is about “recognizing that no single belief system holds a monopoly on truth”. It’s not about abandoning your path—it’s about walking it with eyes wide open.

Here, you can go back to the first guided meditation if that spoke to you, otherwise, here is a new one that is also geared to beginners. It will connect you to your higher self. In this video we will imagine a meadow that is personalized to you. You can imagine it, however you want. Be sure, however, that you have space for a stream as it represents cleansing, grounding, and protection as well as a special tree for the same reason. We will return to this place, and you can set it up differently or enhance and expand it, however you need to.

I hope you join me soon when I will talk about different breathing techniques and why we should incorporate the praxis of deep breathing.

I will also talk more about different ways to meditate. Guided meditation is certainly helpful, especially in the beginning when you might find it hard to calm you mind chatter. There are so many options. No need to sit in an uncomfortable Lotus position!

Begin Your Spiritual Journey - 1

           Where to Start...

It is said that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. That indicates that our whole life experiences are part of this journey, but then why do we often feel disconnected from our spirituality? If you are part of a religion, any religion, you may have trusted that religion takes care of your spirituality, but spirituality is not connected to religion at all. Spirituality is our personal journey and experience. It is our internal journey while religion is external. The bible for example speaks about having a personal relationship with God. That indicates that your own spiritual journey can also be connected to religion. In fact, every one of the main world religions has a spiritual path, but it may not always be obvious. We definitely don’t need religion to embark on our own individual spiritual journeys, but they don’t cancel each other out either.

           So, where do we begin?

Everything in life begins with an intention. In this case, an intention to learn and explore and get to know our true selves.

From the moment we are born, we are focused on our families, our caregivers, providers, siblings, and secondly to the communities into which we are born. We are taught to conform, and that’s when our life begins to get difficult. We are not taught to explore ourselves or get to know ourselves. I was born into a church-going family and was taught the rules and prayers and how to behave. But, this brought an emptiness with it that carried through most of my life. Life choices, like profession, which people to date, what to like and dislike in general came from my community and family.

It left an emptiness inside of me. Something that wasn’t fulfilled. In fact, I was a pretty unhappy person. Sarcastic and cynical, I have know that I’m an empath for a long time, but I didn’t know how it affected me every day. When I opened myself to the spiritual journey, I also learned about this gift and how powerful it truly is. I connected with my intuition which is what happens when we start the journey of self-discovery.

Getting to know yourself, connecting with your intuition and your higher self and even finding your life purpose and what really brings you joy are ahead on your journey. It comes with the promise of balance, and a deep fulfilment. It may not always be easy as we will also face the parts of ourself that have been hurt, our sadness, anger, and frustration. We need to take our part of the responsibility not of our mistreatment by others but our mistreatment of others.

I make you one promise though! Every time you deal with a part of yourself, good or bad, you will grow and you will feel deeply satisfied as you uncover who you truly are.

An early mentor shared the following with me. The spiritual journey is easy, all you have to do is love yourself, and love everyone else, you need to forgive yourself for any wrong-doings and forgive everyone else as well. Easy? The formula is easy, following through is harder as there may be pain and sadness, as well as fears that is very deep and we may not even be aware of. The journey will bring all these parts forth. It is worth it though, absolutely 100%! From a spiritual perspective, we are here to learn and grow and we can only do so if we turn inward.

           So, let the journey begin.

Mindfulness and meditation are excellent tools on this journey, and I will continue to go into details in the following blogs.

If you are truly at the start of your journey, I recommend checking out my guided meditation on YouTube about connecting with your higher self. You can leave comments or just email me with comments of questions at

I also strongly suggest to keep a journal handy. In this guided meditation that I made for beginners we will connect with our higher self and ask it questions. You may or may not get an answer during the meditation, but often, our intuitive self might provide answers as well as new thoughts and ideas, and you will not want to miss them. Just write them down, however strange they may appear. You can also join my Facebook group if you would like to engage in the discussion around all things spiritual, mindfulness, and meditation.
